COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
A central ingredient in the Contegrity approach to fulfillment is the Contegrity Community. While often people think in terms of "developing themselves", there is something misguided about that orientation. Yes, it is important to be self-generating - being out to evolve consistent with your own deepest strengths, but beyond that, trusting yourself to see and know and respond to the challenges of development makes things harder. We are often more reliable when others are involved - when what we do effects others and their lives, we bring our best. Community provides a relational environment in which any ground you take developmentally, has a place to be contributed, and a place to count. And reciprocally, any ground others take becomes available to you. It is easier to stay awake and on in a culture that is organized for it, than to individually attempt to remember to keep yourself on. A functioning community holds a worldview, and a set of values, and provides participation and engagement in ways that makes development meaningful, enjoyable, and satisfying. While people often start with us as a Program Participant (see How to Participate With Us), the experience of the camaraderie and intelligence and power of the Contegrity Community often becomes of enough interest to call on them to become a member of the community. This involves taking on development and fulfillment as a discipline and staying connected to the key conversations happening in the Contegrity programs. While in our times, the depth of local communities has been eroded, and neighbors might not know each other well or have their lives involved with each other, new kinds of communities are being investigated. This one has some real depth, is often the first place people turn when important matters are up in life (illness, death, marriage, career change, etc.) It is built from an alignment regarding the importance of fulfillment and the need for new cultural perspectives to make fulfillment reliable. We are in on that together.
